The Lone Star State and a fond farewell….

Peter Atkinson will be speaking, sadly for the last time, in May, a few weeks before he moves to Canada to be nearer to his family. He will be missed!

We would like to give him a huge round of thanks for all the presentations he has so kindly researched and prepared for us, and raise a glass of cava to say “fond farewell and all the best over the pond”.

His talk will be all about the largest of the contiguous States of America……Texas.

Texas has a rich history;  the flags of six nations have flown over it: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the USA and the Confederate States of America.

Its prosperity was founded on the three Cs- cattle, cotton and crude.  While cowboys and oilmen are part of the story, it also includes conquistadors and explorers, indigenous peoples and immigrant settlers, landowners and slaves, revolutionaries and war heroes, gangsters and assassins, astronauts and very colourful politicians!

He will also include pictures of his other two great interests….architecture and paintings….mainly in Austin, the capital.

Peter’s final talk will be at 11am on Tuesday May 14th at the Javea Players Studio, Calle Cronista Figueras Pacheco 6, Jávea (near Mercadona in the town).

The send off toast to Peter will be after the talk.

Since we expect a good turn out, could you please send an email to me history@u3ajavea.com if you intend to come, so we have enough seats for everyone.  Thanks, Ally
