Minutes of the General Meeting 27 October 2021

1. President’s Welcome and Apologies
Apologies were received from Mike Cox, President

Vice President, Claude Grealy, welcomed all those present to the meeting.
2. Approval of Minutes of last Meeting
These had been published on the website and members notified, there had been no suggested amendments and so the Minutes are approved and held electronically.
3. Announcements
The Vice President asked again for a volunteer to assist with the posting items on the website.

Covid rules applied during the meeting – masks must be worn at all times
4. President’s Report  
The President’s report had been published on the website
5. Vice President’s Report 
The next meeting in November would usually be the Extravaganza but this year that was not possible and so an alternative pre-Christmas meeting would be planned. Further details to follow in due course.

Brenda Bates volunteered to hep with minces pies and sherry if that was part of the meeting.
6. Treasurer’s Report  
The Treasurer Sally Rush announced the current bank balance available to spend was 24,447.78€ and in the light of this the Committee had reconsidered and decided not to charge any renewal fee for 2022.

Members currently on the list in 2021 would be automatically renewed for 2022. New member fees remain unchanged.
7. Communications Officer Report   
The Communications office Ian Rogerson reminded members that he issues a newsletter every month the weekend before the General Meeting and if anyone was not receiving it to get in touch.
8. Group Coordinator’s Report
The Groups Coordinator, Mike Frost reported that the Travel Team Leader was now in post and the first trip planned to Valencia was full and there was a waiting list. A further trip planned will be Madrid in May 2022

The Badminton group was experiencing difficulties because the Town Hall now require accident insurance, and this was being investigated.

A Sewing Group had been proposed.

The Camino Walking Group leaders have now stepped down, so we are looking for volunteers to take it over.
9. Membership Secretary’s Report  
The Membership Secretary, Henrik Rasmussen reported that we had gained 4 new members since the last meeting making a total of 1360
10. Questions from Members   
Member Raymond Hawkins asked if we would advertise a sale of Christmas items to all members. The sale was to be like a ‘bring and buy’ with items from members sold as well as those of the Art Gallery owned and run by member Michele Dandrieux.

Raymond was asked to supply written details explaining what the event was about so that consideration could be given to advertising it.
11. Introduction of Guest Speaker and Presentation
Claude Grealy introduced John Hopwood to talk about The Eiffel Tower.

The presentation explained the various stages of building the tower and was illustrated with some interesting slides of the designer and the stages of the build.Everyone enjoyed the talk and the amazing video of the firework display from the tower to celebrate the Millennium.

Claude thanked John and presented him with a bottle of wine as a token of our appreciation along with a round of applause.
12. Closure of meeting 

Claude thanked everyone for coming.
