“Cantabria – known as Green Spain”, Saturday 20th – Wednesday 31st August 2022
An 11-night tour to the cooler northern region of Cantabria, with the opportunity to join in the daily excursions offered to nearby places of interest or to simply relax and enjoy Santillana del Mar, which has often been referred to as one of the most beautiful villages in the whole of Spain, let alone Cantabria.
Cantabria offers a trip full of beautiful scenery, excellent gastronomy and unique heritage. This northern part of Spain is home to various prehistoric caves, of which the most famous of all is Altamira, awarded the World Heritage designation and known as the “Sistine Chapel of Prehistoric Art”. Cantabria’s towns and villages contain a wealth of beautiful monuments such as the Magdalena Palace in Santander, the monastery of Santo Toribio de Liébana and Gaudí’s “Capricho” monument in Comillas. Learn all about Cantabrian albarcas, shoes made from one piece of wood, used especially by the peasantry of Cantabria and first mentioned in a 1657 document of King Philip IV. A highlight of the trip will be the “Battle of the Flowers”, a special festival of national interest which has been held in Laredo for over 100 years.
As there is a lot of work involved in the detailed costing and organising of such a trip, at the moment we are only looking for serious expressions of interest in other words, subject to cost you would definitely be keen to join the trip if it were to go ahead.
