Ally’s bag of “All Sorts”, and not just of the liquorice kind!

Ally O’Brien’s presentation for the History group meeting, held in the Javea Players’ Studio on Tuesday 12th March, was entitled “How it all began”. And what a trip down memory lane it was for all of the members present, as we all kept saying “yes, I remember that ….”!

Reminders of so many products, gadgets, medicines, and other routine objects in our lives which we took for granted as we were growing up, and Ally explained, along with some excellent illustrations and photographs, the creator behind each one of them, why and how they were brought into being, and what has happened to them in today’s world.

Members will probably never put a jelly baby into their mouths again without licking of the coating first to see the detail of each. Many of us in the audience had not known that the moulds for making them had later been adapted to add a Christian theme to them all.

An appreciative audience gave Ally a well-deserved round of applause at the finale, for the huge amount of research which she had undertaken in putting the presentation together. Report by Angela Chantry
