Members of the History Group travelled back in time to the years of the Second World War as Dave McCall told us the “stranger than fiction” stories behind his 2022 book, A Betrayal of Heroes. Tales of Casablanca and Brazzaville, of the Spaniards who fought for Free France, of the 1940s celebrities and spies who were involved. Dave, who writes under the pen name David Ebsworth, has built a reputation for lively and “not to be missed” real life history and all his work has been meticulously researched. Dave kept his audience enthralled throughout his talk, following which he was presented with a gift of appreciation, to a warm round of applause from the members present. Angela Chantry
