There was a distinctly Christmas feel about the latest U3A Travellers’ Tales meeting (double click on photographs to expand them).
Before business began, there were mince pies and sherry on offer to members – then gifts presented by group leader Angela Chantry to Wendy and John Ranger, Ally O’Brien and Brenda Bates for all their help and support during the year.
Then followed Angela’s presentation on her trip with daughter Becky to Brazil in November this year.
Her talk was illustrated with some excellent photos and video clips featuring the distinctive landscape, colourful buildings, wildlife, flora and fauna of South America’s largest country (the fifth largest in the world).
The pair enjoyed plenty of walking as well as taking flights, taxis and trains to visit numerous places of interest including some of the most ornate churches, museums and public buildings.
Starting in Salvador, declared a World Heritage Site in 1985, their trip included visits to Rio de Janeiro where they took a helicopter ride to enjoy breathtaking views of the sprawling city as well as Sugarloaf Mountain and the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue.
Highlight of their trip was a visit to the spectacular Iguazu Falls on the border of Brazil and Argentina, which Angela said made Niagara Falls look like a “drop in the ocean”!
“It really was an amazing trip,” concluded Angela.
