Over the last week, we have implemented a number of changes to the U3A Jávea website. This post tells you about these changes and how you can get the most out of them.
Firstly, we have changed the way that the website looks. The new look is designed to be clearer and more modern. Behind the scenes, these changes should improve the performance of the site, make it easier to maintain and is critical to our plan to move the website to a new, more resilient hosting service.
The Home Page
The Home Page has 5 sections:
Highlights
This is a revolving section at the top of the page. This will show important News stories and will also focus on our Activity Groups and all of the key people who keep the U3A Jávea running. You can click on the picture to access the full story.
News
This section will contain the last eight News stories. News stories may contain reports from our Groups, launch of new Travel trips, U3A Jávea stories or reminders about future events. You can click on the item to access the full story.
What’s Coming Up?
This section has a list of key events coming up. Some events will be shown separately, e.g. Travel Trips, U3A Jávea events/meetings, Group Meetings where the dates are ad hoc or where the subject matter changes. For each of these, you can click on the Event Details button to get more information.
The majority of events in the list are titled “Regular U3A Jávea Group Meetings Today”. If you click on these events, you will go through to a list of all of the events that are scheduled for that day.
In the list of meetings, you can click on the Group name to take you to the Home Page for that Group. On that page, you will be able to find details of the Group, the venue that they meet and the contact details for the Group Leader.
What are you interested in?
We now have 45 different Activity Groups and scrolling through them makes it difficult to find what you’re looking for.
In order to make it easier, all Groups have been allocated to one of six different categories. Clicking on any of the icons will take you to a smaller list of Groups where you can find what you are looking for.
A full list of Activity Groups is still available on the Activity Groups tab in the main menu.
Weekly Schedule of Events
Under the introductory text of the What’s Coming Up? section, there is a link to the Weekly Schedule. Click on this link to go a single page view of all of the Group meetings.
Bookable Travel Trips
At any given moment, we will be running a number of travel trips. Some of these will be fully booked.
Others will still have places available. You can click “View Detail” to access full details of the trip and the contact details of the U3A Leader running the trip.
Details of fully booked trips can still be accessed on the Group’s page, eg Travel or Spanish Culture and Cuisine.
Changes to “About Us”
We have also taken the opportunity to simplify the information in the “About Us” menu. There were 11 choices in this menu and we have reduced this down to just 5 choices.
All of the information is still there but we have combined pages to make it much simpler.
The new Miscellaneous Information tab contains a range of documents which can be downloaded. These include the U3A Jávea statutes, the Membership Terms and Conditions and the Guidelines for Group Leaders.
