VE Day on the 8th May 80 years ago was a moment in history that shaped the rest of our lives. As the UK comes together to honour and pay tribute to the World War II generation, and community celebrations take place across the nation to remember those who gave so much, come and join us for our own VE Day celebration! Some members may wish to watch the various events taking place as they are broadcast live on TV, so our get-together will be held on Saturday 10th May.

Venue: Jávea Players’ Studio

13.00 hrs: Cava reception.
13.30 hrs: Finger buffet – additional drinks available to purchase at the bar.
Accompanied by the songs which became so familiar during the war years!
14.00 hrs: Presentation by Angela Chantry which will focus upon the main events which took place between May – August 1945, VJ Day which marked the end of WWII with Japan’s surrender (which the world will celebrate on the 15th August 2025), the challenges which faced post-war Britain, and the story of John ‘Paddy’ Hemingway, one of the band of brothers that defended our British skies. John Hemingway, the last of “The Few”, passed away on St. Patrick’s Day this year at the age of 105, entirely in keeping with the extraordinary story of his life.
15.00 hrs: Cava toast to all the veterans.

Cost: €10 per person (includes cava, finger buffet, hire of studio)
Organisers: Angela Chantry and Ally O’Brien
