Les Valls A fair-sized group of 34 walkers, led by Tom and Milo , had a great walk around the Valls this morning. Almost 50 people gathered together in the comfortable surroundings of the Dutch NCJ Club. The group leader, Marc van Praet selected a range of familiar and popular songs that, judging by the many happy faces, had a wide appeal. These included When Irish Eyes are Smiling, You are My Sunshine, Sailing, Waltzing Matilda, Country Roads and many more. Members of the Dutch choir who were well-versed in these songs supported the new participants by instilling confidence and adding volume. Excellent…

Las Ramblas Well it was quite a dull day this week for our walk, but much easier to walk when its not so hot. Ally led us on tracks around the Ramblas area, and it’s so much nicer walking there now they have moved the rubbish depot elsewhere. At one point we passed some beehives, and were told not to talk near them and, believe it or not, the group of 26 really were very quiet!! Thank you Ally Next…

WAGS Too enjoyed a pleasant paseo along the Camino de Santiago with their guide Ivan Hardsdal at K Ricco Restaurant in Jàvea Puerto. Ivan relived his journey along the Camino with a selection of wines that he had enjoyed whilst walking the Camino many years ago. WAGS too members got to try several lovely wines from Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Rias Baixas, Rioja and Bierzo. Pat’s funeral will be family only due to the short timescales involved in arranging it. Nichola, Pat’s daughter, would like to extend an invitation to all U3A members who knew Pat to come to a Celebration of Life party at her house in Jávea. A glorious day and a great group of people, for our 2nd Getaway Guided Walk along the Via Verde Serpis. We started in Villalonga, with our minibus taking us to the top of the steep hill near the quarry, which enabled us to avoid walking along a long and winding road uphill at the beginning! We are all very lucky to live in Jávea with its dramatic scenery, beautiful blue sea and wonderful weather. Yesterday however was a very difficult day for many people living in and around the Valls area. An enormous fire started at about 10.30am and burned throughout the day. The flames were enormous and the columns of smoke could be seen miles away. That no one was injured and damage to property was kept to a minimum was entirely due to…

It saddens us to inform you of the passing of Pat Rudland yesterday. She will be rembered as an active U3A member who enjoyed Canasta and Cribbage.  Although confined to her wheelchair she always had a smile and enjoyed the company and companionship of other U3A members. She will be sadly missed. 

Many members will remember Betty Guinness who is one of our Honorary Members. Betty lived here in Jávea until the age of 102 until she went back to England to live with her daughter. Now in Rivendell View Care Home in Nottingham, Betty celebrates her 105th birthday on 20th April. Here are some recent pictures of Betty with her family. Pinomar – Val de Sol A new walk for our group today, walking along the paths where we had the huge fire in 2016. Its wonderful to see how its all grown back up again.
