Der Blaue Reiter (English: The Blue Rider) is regarded as the second wave of German Expressionism. The artists associated with Der Blaue Reiter were important pioneers of modern art of the 20th century; they formed a loose network of relationships, exhibiting together, but not an art group in the narrower sense like Die Brücke (The Bridge) in Dresden. Although based in Germany the artists associated were from an international background. Members included Wassily Kandinsky, Alexej von Jawlensky and Marianne von Werfkin (Russian), Franz Marc, August Macke and Gabriele Münter (German), Paul Klee (Swiss), Lyonel Feininger (American) and the Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg. They published one edition of The Blue Rider Almanac (still in print) in 1912 before the First World War brought the movement to a tragic close and the early death of two of its most gifted members: Macke and Marc.
The meeting will be at the Javea Players’ Studio Theatre. Doors open at 10.30 for the meeting at 11.00 am. 2euros contribution towards hall rental.
