This special presentation will be given by U3A member Christine Betterton Jones. Christine will relate the story of how her parents came to meet in China during WWII, a tale which is worthy of a Netflix drama, with danger, romance, cliff-hangers, tragedy, twists and turns, and a touch of fantasy. We will learn about the pacifist Quakers, pre-war Shanghai, the turmoil in East Asia in the face of Japanese aggression and lives uprooted then planted afresh by the fortunes of war.
Venue: The Jávea Players Studio (parking nearby in Mercadona, Jávea old town).
Doors will open at 14.00 hrs with the presentation commencing at 14.30 hrs.
This meeting is being hosted by Angela Chantry (Travellers Tales) and Keith Smith (History Group). As this will be the first get-together for the New Year for both groups, members attending are warmly invited to join Angela & Keith for a cava reception with nibbles!
