New President’s appeal for help

Javea U3A elected a new President at the AGM, held at the Parador hotel on Wednesday March 30.

Vice-President Claude Grealy was voted in to succeed Mike Cox, who has retired from the post after serving the committee for 14 years as President, Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer.

Long-term U3A member Krystyna Stefanczyk was elected Vice-President.

The full committee is: President Claude Grealy; Vice-President Krystyna Stefanczyk; Secretary Margaret March; Treasurer Sally Rush; Groups Coordinator Mike Frost; Membership Secretary Henrik Rasmussen.

Ian Rogerson, who decided not to seek re-election as Communications Officer, has agreed to stay on as Publicity Officer in a non-executive role. He and his wife, Jacqui, will also continue to keep members informed of news and events on the U3A’s website and Facebook page.

In his first address to members at the AGM, Claude reflected on the last two years of the Covid pandemic and how it had curtailed U3A events, but expressed optimism for the future.

“Two years of the pandemic has been too long,” he said. “Next month masks will go and soon the pandemic will be over. Hopefully more people, especially the very nervous, will be able to venture out again.”

He appealed for more people to come forward as volunteers and help in any way they can – big or small – in the running of our “wonderful” association.

“The committee has worked hard to get things right,” Claude added. “Could we do better? Of course we could do better, especially with more helpers!”

With the current membership at over 1,400, Claude’s appeal should be easily answered ….. email president@u3ajavea.com if you would like to help.
