At a recent meeting of the newly formed Membership Support Group one member explained how as a volunteer in the Charity Library she has been surprised by the number of people that come into the library just seeking contact with other people due them being on their own.
We also discussed that, on the promenade in Albir near Benidorm, they have benches with signs, in English saying ‘If you want to chat sit here’.
After some discussion we agreed to see if there is a need for this type of support within the U3A Javea.
We have found two volunteers who would be willing to make themselves available to meet and talk about anything at all with anyone who feels the need for this type of contact.
There will be two Talking Points, one in the Old Town and the other in the Port, on a trial basis.
The first to start will be outside the Restaurante Bodeguilla (Camí Casetes, 19 in the Port on the seafront) every Monday morning 1100 to 1200, for four weeks starting from Monday 8th May.
Our volunteer for this is Yvonne and she will be wearing a U3A Javea badge to identify herself.
So, if you are in need of company come and talk to Yvonne. Who knows, you may meet other similar people there and make a new friend.
She is there to talk with you, and also if you need help with a problem she can refer it to the Membership Support group, who will help if they can.
