John’s talk will give us an insight to the fascinating enigma of the Samurai of Japan. Not only were they expected to be fearless warriors, but also highly cultured and learned, attending tea ceremonies and writing poetry. They were the hereditary military nobility in medieval Japan till they were abolished in 1876, but their traditions and strict code of honour still greatly influences Japan today.
