It’s 1 o’clock on Sunday. For many people it’s an opportunity to dine out with their loved one. But what do you do when you suddenly find yourself on your own?
As I can testify from many evenings spent sitting in the corner of a restaurant far from home, eating out on your own can be a very lonely experience.
Solos Dining Out was conceived for exactly that reason. Group Leader John Jardine explained, “Most of our members are widows or widowers. We don’t get together seeking another partner. We just miss the simple pleasure of going out on a Sunday lunchtime in the company of friends. And we also know that some people need to have the confidence that they’re going to be with others who are in exactly the same situation.”
John continued, “We now have 93 members and most Sundays there are between 20 and 30 of who meet up at a different restaurant in Jávea or the surrounding area. We also get together on Thursdays when the Group is a little smaller and is a great opportunity for any new people who want to come along and meet new friends”.
John is a keen statistician. Between November 2022 and November 2023, the Solos Dining Out Group ate 1072 meals spending over €27,000 on food and drink! That’s just over €25 a head and demonstrates one the Group’s objectives of always getting great value.
