Focus on – Jim Short – Membership Secretary

Jim Short was born James Gerard Short in Ireland in 1949. Following an academic path, he qualified as a mechanical engineer in 1972. With this qualification, he became a nomad and worked on every continent except the Arctic and Antarctica, which were a bit cold for him.

Over the years, he has developed a belief system based on the Value Principles of Freedom, Equality, and Humanity. It is the talk that he likes to walk.

in 2014, Jim self-published a book on his beliefs and management style. The book, entitled Rare Sense, focuses on how to work with people to eliminate loss at the source.

Jim is the Membership Secretary with U3A Jávea. His role is to enrol new members, manage the annual renewal process and to maintain the membership database.

Before that, Jim was the Events Co-ordinator with U3A Pyrenees Orientales in France.

Jim moved to Jávea in 2022 and lives with his wife, Marian, near Jávea Port. He has four children and three stepchildren. Jim is a keen follower of rugby and Gaelic football. He loves playing golf with Marian, but his handicap is rising with age.
