For this walk, we will be having a guide from Oxytours, an innovative company of nature tourism whose aim is to provide an immersive experience in the region’s nature, culture and gastronomy.

Font Roja Natural Reserve

We will visit the Natural Reserve of Font Roja located in the north of the province, an enclave with an excellent representation of forest where we can observe its diverse array of deciduous trees.  It is an excellent representation of a type of forest that has now disappeared as such from the mountains of Alicante, with only small examples of this ecosystem being found in some corners of our mountain ranges: Font Roja is a relict forest, fragile and unique. The set of endemic flora species together with the exceptional variety of birds present throughout the year offer a high biodiversity to visitors. We shall also enter into its history to discover how its inhabitants took advantage of its unique natural resources throughout the centuries.

Length: 3.5 – 4 hours (including refreshment break).

Distance: 8 km.

Slope: 320 m.

Difficulty: Low (for people used to doing hiking activities). Led by an expert guide on environmental and cultural heritage of the Costa Blanca (Biologist, certified mountain guide and official tourist guide). Courtesy tasting of local cheese and grapes form Alicante area.

Programme

08.00 hrs: Departure from Golden Star Apartments, Calle Bruselas, Javea Arenal.

08.15 hrs: Departure from Interiors (opposite side of the road), Javea port.

08.30 hrs: Pickup at Mas y Mas, on the N332

09.45 hrs: On arrival at Alcoi, we will have a refreshment break first at the cafe bar at the “Francisco Laporta” municipal sports centre, which is on the access road to the Font Roja Park. Our guide, Fran, will meet us there, and the minibus will then follow him to the park.

10:30 hrs Arrival at Font Roja and start of the guided walk, with a break for a snack.

14.15 hrs: End of the walk and transfer to the restaurant.

14.30 Hrs: Lunch, which includes traditional dishes from Alcoy, will be in the restaurant of the Masía La Safranera, a restored building from 1900 which is located in the Fuente Roja natural park.

16.30 hrs: Departure for our return to Javea.

18.00 hrs: Approximate arrival back in Javea.

Cost
€63 per person: which includes transport, specialist guide, lunch, gratuities and €1 for the new Javea U3A travel fund.
