Xàtiva is a charming town, steeped in history and best known for its impressive castle which dominates the skyline. The current castle was built on ancient Iberian and Roman ruins and the current structure showcases Islamic and Gothic architecture.
The castle offers a fascinating insight into various wars in which it was a key fortress along with a Museum in which you can discover the history of the Borgia family.
We will travel to the castle by minibus. Some areas of the castle may not be suitable for people with walking difficulties. Those who do not wish to visit the castle will be dropped off in the city centre to enjoy a meander through the streets.
The ancient core of this special city was officially declared a Site of Historical and Artistic Interest in 1982, and you simply cannot visit without taking a leisurely stroll around the streets of the old quarter and pausing to admire its spectacular collection of monuments. Xàtiva is home to such great buildings as the collegiate basilica of Santa María (known as La Seu or La Colegiata), the Hospital Reial, the chapels of Sant Feliu, Sant Josep and Santa Anna, the churches of Sant Pere and Sant Francesc, Plaça de la Trinitat square, the former convent of Sant Domènec, the birthplace of Pope Alexander VI, and various palaces from different periods.
