Cubism – 25th February at 11.00am

Cubism is an early-20th-century avant-garde art movement begun Paris that revolutionised painting and the visual arts, and influenced artistic innovations in music, ballet, literature and music. Cubism has been considered the most influential art movement of the 20th century, introducing collage as a modern art form. The movement was pioneered in partnership by Pablo Picasso and George Braque, and joined by Jan Metzinger, Albert Gleizes, Robrt Delaunay, Juan Gris and Fernand Léger.

In France, offshoots of Cubism developed, including Orphism, abstract art and Purism. The impact of Cubism was far-reaching and wide-ranging in the arts and in popular culture. Throughout Europe and Russia Futurism, Suprematism, Dada, Constructivism, De Stijl and Art Deco developed in response to Cubism.

Robert Sedgley will give a presentation at the Jávea Players Studio at 11.00am on Tuesday 25th February. There is a small charge of €2 to cover the venue costs.
