On Friday evening, 100 guests arrived at the Parador De Jávea for the Spanish Cultural and Cuisine Christmas Party. The day had been sunny and mild, and we could admire the view of the beautiful Jávea bay as the party began with a cava reception in the Bahia Room.
Once the guests were seated, Angela gave everyone a warm welcome. Members had been able to attend various trips during 2024: the Ibiza Medieval Carnival and The Corklands in May; Festival of Sawdust Carpets June; the Culture, Cuisine & Wine tour September; Sierras de Cazorla Natural Park October; El Maestrat November; and still to come, the New Year Cruise on the Guadalquivir River. Angela thanked Trevor Rush for all of the printing which he does on behalf of the group during the year, and everyone joined in the singing to Derek Willis, who was celebrating his birthday with us all at the party.
Angela thanked all the members for their support over the year, and announced that she would be making a donation of €450 on their behalf for the children’s charity, Make A Smile.
Everyone then joined in the carol singing, followed by dinner.
La Tuna de Xàbia arrived at 9 p.m. and they came in singing Cumpleaños Feliz to Derek, as he blew out his birthday candle. As always, Manola and his friends gave a really great performance and made it a fun party atmosphere. We waved our Spanish flags to show our support and recognition of their 30 years’ service to the community of Jávea and beyond.
Many thanks to Sieglinde Czerwinski for taking all of the great photos during the evening. Report by the SC&C group leader, Angela Chantry.
