Last night at the Jávea Golf Club, seven teams of quizzers fought it out to claim the bragging rights in the latest U3A Jávea Quiz Night.
So here’s a challenge for you all. The questions were set around a famous poem, can you name the author? (Answer at the bottom of the page)
I keep six honest serving men
(They taught me all I knew)
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who
Tony’s questions followed the pattern of the Six serving men plus a picture round of cakes from around the world and a set of cryptic clues to reveal the names of pop bands, for example:
German soldier with front runners? (Answer at the bottom of the page)
Our intrepid quizzers
After a battle royale, there were only 2 points separating our top two teams. Group Leader Sandra von Esebeck, her husband Constantin and Quizmaster Tony Lawton then had the considerable challenge of reading the score sheets (difficult!), dealing with the inevitable queries (very challenging!) and then checking the scores (almost impossible!).
But, finally after much deliberation, cogitation and calculation, the winners of the May U3A Jávea Quiz were “Los Internacionales” with 74 points!
The gallant runners-up were the Frankophiles with a highly commendable 72 points.
Group Leader Sandra von Esebeck thanked Tony Lawton for all of his work in setting a really interesting quiz and, of course, thanked all the teams for the great spirit in which it was conducted.
