Book of the month – Lessons by Ian McEwan

February’s presentation was given by Mike Harvey

“Lessons” tells the story of the life of Ronald Baines.

Ian McEwan covers love, loss, regret with imagination.

It is a sad, thought provoking book although not many of us felt sorry for poor Ronald who appeared to bumble through his life with a lack of drive after being seduced by his piano teacher whilst at boarding school. His only responsibility was to care for baby Lawrence when his wife left him to pursue her career as a poet.

We would recommend it as a good read but only if you have time to get into it as the story travels backwards and forwards through interesting times and can get confusing.
