Report by Karin Ruddle, Group Leader
Mondays book club read ….
Our book for this month was truly a biggie at over 500 pages but well worth the read.
The story is set in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia and is written from the point of view of the eponymous hero of the title.
It covers his life from age 9 to 17 and what a life it is.
It would be fair to say that it had a mixed reaction from the group, ranging from those who found it so relentingly depressing that they couldn’t finish it to others for whom it had become their favourite book.
It was generally agreed to be beautifully written but could maybe have done with some judicious editing.
