Book Club Review January

What a surprise this was for us all. It came highly recommended by a tourist who thought we might appreciate it. Thankyou young man who’s name escapes us.

Having just read two books based in Cyprus some of us were quite prepared to lay it down and not bother! I’m so pleased that we overcame that urge and continued with this beautifully written story of belonging and identity, love and trauma.

It tells of the romance between Kostas , a Greek Cypriot and Defne a Turkish Cypriot. Their developing life together is narrated on every other chapter by a fig tree.

I’m always wondering what stories trees could tell if only they could speak…..now I know.

It really is a moving and beautiful love story which we recommend to you.
