At the March meeting of History Group Cheda Panajotovic treated us to a fantastic presentation on some of London’s forgotten, hidden, and downright unusual histories and monuments. Having worked in the city for years and even spent some time as a tour guide, Cheda really knows his stuff.
He started with the earliest Bronze Age structures in the area, then whisked us away on a whirlwind tour through London’s past — from Boadicea and the Romans to the Normans — all key players in shaping the city’s early days. After that, we explored some of London’s iconic landmarks, like Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, and the Greenwich Observatory, among others.
Group leader, Keith Smith, wrapped things up by thanking Cheda for an entertaining talk that reminded us history doesn’t always have to be about geopolitics. At Javea U3A History Group, we love mixing heavier topics with lighter, more fun ones.
Looking ahead, on April 14th Angela Chantry will be with us to present “Hannibal, Rome’s Greatest Enemy.” If Angela’s previous talks are anything to go by, it’s going to be a real treat!
