It was a glorious sunny day last Saturday for the Getaway Walk – the Marjal del Moros – which is a wetland located in Camp de Morvedre, Puçol. The weather was a little too warm, however, as it brought the mosquitoes out at the beginning of the walk when we were very close to the marshland, but as we progressed further away, the wind helped to keep them at bay.

We stopped along the trail to look at the fortified complex of Grau Vell, a small settlement located south of the port of Sagunto, which was the old and historic port of Sagunto. It will become an interpretation centre towards the end of 2025. Grau Vell is currently made up of about 30 houses around a main street and a small church.

We had some mud to contend with along the way, and rather a drama which resulted in a 112 call and the arrival of the guardia civil, bomberos and an ambulance (en masse!), but fortunately the member’s fall had not resulted in an injury.

There were several bird hides along the route although we didn’t spot very many birds at that time of day, but Kevin managed to capture some good images on his camera. Afterwards, the group had a menu del dia lunch at the Restaurante Puzol, which included water and wine, before we made our return to Javea.
I would like to thank all of the members who joined this outing and a special thank you to Wendy Ranger and Kevin Mcloughlin for taking some great photographs.
