The website uses Categories to determine where a Post or Event is used.
Authors must select Categories carefully because choosing the wrong category will have unintended effects and may corrupt someone else’s section of the website.
DO NOT select a Category if you do not know it’s purpose.
| Events | Posts | |
| Create | If this article describes a future event e.g. a meeting, travel trip etc – Create an Event for the calendar. The What’s coming up? section on the Home page will include the next 4 calendar events excluding those with the Category of Bookable. | Create a post if this article is a news item reporting on an event that has occurred or announcing a reminder or an update to an event e.g. “places available”. See also Post about an Event below. If no category is added to the post (category = Uncategorised) the Post will be published on the website but will not be linked in to any pages. |
| Category | For group events add the category Group – groupname if available, for a summary of the Event to appear on the Group Page. Contact the webmaster if no category is available. For the Event to appear in the Bookable section of the Home page, add the category Bookable. If the category Mailpoet Now – Travel is added to the event, the event will be included in an immediate U3A Javea Travel newsletter. If the category Mailpoet Now – Non Travel is added to the event, the event will be included in an immediate Announcing a U3A Jávea event newsletter. Do not use any of the categories starting XX. These are now redundant and will be deleted in due course. | Add the category Mailpoet – Newsletter Weekly for the post to be included in the next weekly newsletter. If the Category Home – News is added, the post will be displayed in the post list in the News section of the Home page. If the Category Group – groupname is added, where groupnameis the name of your Group e.g. Group – Travellers Tales, the post will be included in a posts list on the Group page if a list exists. If no list exists this Category serves no purpose. Do not use any other categories. |

To facilitate finding the image in future, include a description of the image in the file name or edit the WordPress Media Library entry to include a description.
Post about an Event
When the post is a reminder or update about an event, the body of the post can include just a short summary of the event and a link to the event for more details. Alternatively, it is possible to copy all the WordPress blocks of the event description and paste this into the body of the post.
Updating a Post
When a post needs to be updated e.g. from “Places available” to “Nearly Sold Out” the original post should be duplicated. The duplicate post should be updated and published and the original sent to the Bin. This will ensure that the updated post is included in the next weekly newsletter and avoids duplicate posts in the News section of the Home page for example.
