The U3A photography group (aka Shutterbugs) met again on Friday 30 June meeting at JIBC Church Centre as per norm. This was the last meeting before the summer break of July and August which means our next meeting will be on September (details below).
We had a small attendance this month which was expected as many members had already left for “cooler places”. There were also fewer pictures entered this month, however, the process of critiquing them and subsequently deciding on a winner went ahead.
The subject for June had been set on Architecture. After viewing the entered pictures and, following some deliberation, the winner was chosen. Kevin’s picture of a well-known, albeit new Javea landmark, was the winner. Well done, Kevin: Again!

On this occasion Kevin wavered the job of choosing the next month’s subject as he had a few successes over recent months. Mal stepped up and has chosen the subject for September. “Street Art” of the Banksy type. Well, perhaps not to the standard of Banksy but any art that can be found around the Javea and surrounding area. Wall murals, school art on boundary walls (with permission of course). There are many surrounding villages that have such Art, derelict buildings (sadly) and so on. You won’t have to look far. Finding a suitable video to accompany this project has proved difficult. The best that could be achieved is a video reel of Street Art photographs. These may stimulate your mind as to what can be achieved by using someone else’s Art as your composition. You will notice that some photographs leave litter as part of the composition so no need to take a sweeping brush and black bag with you. I think this project could turn out to being a bit of fun and look forward to seeing your entries in September.
You now have a couple of months to fulfil this project. In the meantime, why not take a few summer photographs, not snaps, choose Your Favourite Three and send them in and we will show them during the September meeting with each member having a couple of minutes to chat about when and where Your Favourite Three were taken and why.
