Death of a member – Glyn Griffiths

By his wife Lorely

Glyn died on Friday evening peacefully in Denia hospital.

He had fibrosis which was a result of long Covid and was permanently on oxygen for quite a long time. He would have been 82 on the 7th December.

Lorely and Glyn have been very happily married for 56 years. They have two children, Riana, Hayden and a grandson Hal. Their son Haydn sadly died when he was 26.

They have been members of the U3A Jávea right from the beginning. Glyn was a member of the model railway club, and in fact constructed a model railway in the spare room. They built their first house in Moraira in 1986 and subsequently bought their final house in Jávea and retired permanently here in 2000.

They have been very happy here, after having wondrously travelling the world working in Africa, the Far East and the Middle East. Glyn worked as a telecommunications engineer responsible for network planning for telephone systems.

As a youth, he was a strong swimmer and competed in the Commonwealth games, not quite reaching the finals. Glyn was an amateur diver and became an instructor for the British sub Aqua club. He loved it and we spent nearly every weekend, for the 10 years in Dubai, down at the Red Sea.

He was fascinated by astronomy and while camping out in various deserts, he would point out all the planets and stars. A very intelligent and empathetic man.

The funeral is this Tuesday at 12 noon, Javea Crematorium.
