Our first walk for the autumn season is one which I have personally wanted to do for some time! The Guadalest reservoir receives water mainly from the Guadalest river (a tributary of the Algar), and was built in 1969 so that there would always be water for irrigation. Guadalest valley is surrounded by the Aitana, Serrella and Xortà mountains, Aitana being the highest in the entire Valencian Community (1,558 metres).
There is a 9.63 km circular hiking route which goes around the lake, with pine, olive, almond trees and great views of the reservoir and mountains. Much of the route is on a narrow, winding road that is very quiet, especially out of season, whilst the last section is a walking trail running parallel to the reservoir. Easy walk with less than 200 metres ascent.
We will start with a coffee at the Restaurante Meson La Mesquita in the village of Beniardà, where we will return at the end of the trail for a menu del dia lunch.
PROGRAMME
08.30 hrs: Departure from Golden Star Apartments, Calle Bruselas, Javea Arenal
08.45 hrs: Departure from Interiors (opposite side of the road), Javea port. Further pickups at Javea bus station and Mas y Mas on the N332 if required.
10.00 hrs: Arrival at the Restaurante Meson La Mesquita, Beniardà; refreshment break.
10.45 hrs: Start the walk.
14.00 hrs: Menu del dia lunch.
15.45 hrs: Return to Javea.
17.00 hrs: Approximate arrival in Javea.
Please note that walkers undertake this activity at their own risk and the Javea U3A is not liable in any respect: It is your responsibility to look at the walk characteristics and ensure that you are capable of doing the walk. Members participate at their own risk and are responsible for their own medical cover.
In case of cancellation, it may only be possible to give a refund if another member takes over your place.
Cost
Transport – the return trip will cost in the region of €20 (depending on the number of members participating), plus the cost of the menu del dia lunch.
