ChatGPT – should we be wary of it or embrace it?

During the March meeting, the Discussion group members talked about the new Artificial Intellect application which since November of the last year has become the biggest news in the world of Information Technology.

I asked Chat GPT – Generative Pre-trained Transformer – to give me a short and interesting introduction to the post and here it is:

ChatGPT is a cool technology that can simulate human-like conversation and provide intelligent responses. It uses machine learning algorithms to learn from vast amounts of data, and its sophisticated algorithms allow it to recognize patterns, identify themes, and draw insights. However, there are ethical concerns about its use, such as bias, privacy, and transparency. Overall, ChatGPT is a fascinating tool that can engage in meaningful conversations on a variety of topics.

Some videos we watched before the meeting and during our discussion said that ChatGPT is smarter than and much more efficient than us. A few members of the Group are using ChatGPT and they said it is definitely not smarter than us, makes mistakes, is not updated to the present situation and lacks quite a lot of facts, in general, it is a good tool but not much more than that.

All this is true but this AI application can produce fast, personalized customer communications based on historical data and customer interactions ( Generative) and has only some but not all of the information (Pre-trained), is non-stop learning and adapting all the time (Transformer). All of this is what its creators said in many situations.

This is why we felt that it is dangerous to let it go without any restrictions and regulations. According to some of us, it can spread a lot of misinformation because the main source of information ChatGPT is using is the internet which is full of different junk.

It can create music, write books, send emails to clients, etc. Being more efficient and fast will replace a lot of people, like lawyers, journalists, mathematicians, administrators, secretaries and personal assistants and a lot of other jobs and professions.

Microsoft invested a lot of money and will look forward to getting as much profit as possible from the invention.

Of course, there are a lot of fields in the medical area, climate change, where it is already doing a wonderful job.

Few countries have banned ChatGPT at the moment. But in general, our opinion was whether we like it or not, we use it or not, it came to life and we have to accept it, hoping that governments of different countries will introduce correct regulations, define the right fields for using it and do it in a coordinated way.
