The Weary Warriors

The Weary Warriors Dementia Support Group was formed in 2021 to provide free help and support to those members caring for a partner or friend living with Dementia or Alzheimer’s.

We also have regular invited guests from all the professions that can provide us with useful information.

The group now has 30 members, ladies and gentlemen, and all English speaking individuals are welcome. The Weary Warriors now have three sections:

  • The Weary Warriors for the carers of partners or family members
  • The Silent Warriors, for those members who have partners or family members in Care Homes
  • The Warrior Widows, or Widowers, for those who have lost their partners

The Weary Warriors meet on the 1st Tuesday of each month, in the private room of the Javea Golf Club from 10.45 to 12h,

The meeting dates for the next few months are as follows:

7 July, 4 August, 1  September, 6 October, 3 November, Christmas Lunch 15 December

New members are made very welcome. We all understand the problems and concerns and help each other in so many ways, in particular with useful and practical information.

A warm welcome to Alex Stewart, the  new WingMan of Lyn Baerfuss, Founder of the Weary Warriors. Alex  is taking the helm at meetings for the moment, while Lyn is recovering at home from a lengthy bout of  rheumatoid arthritis. Lyn continues to deal with the WW administration at home, advertising for and interviewing potential carers and sitters, for the husbands and wives who need a break and the opportunities to get out and about. Lyn is also available for details on how to obtain equipment, and other ways of making the care of those living with Dementia and Alzheimer’s an easier task.

For all enquiries about the Weary Warriors, WhatsApp Lyn on 692 059 257, or by email : lynbaerfuss@gmail.com.

The lovely Jane Morley continues to be the most efficient WingLady  for the group. Both Alex and Jane meet and greet new members who arrive at the meetings,  making them feel  welcome and that they are amongst kindred spirits. Their first hand experience of Dementia is invaluable to the group and questions and concerns are speedily dealt with.

A new development : The Weary Warriors are now affiliated to Take 5,  a Daycare Facility, run by Nurse Suzanne Riches and her team. It is held at the Javea Bridge Club, Ave de Paris 2, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11-15h, and is designed for those with Dementia, Alzheimer’s and other age related disabilities. The Weary Warriors have always promoted Take 5, since its creation a year ago, as it is such a source of practical help. It offers not only activities, but many local people and groups offer enjoyable entertainment for the participants.
