Summer sunshine for our walk by the sea!

Thirty-five members set off from Jávea on Friday morning for the Getaway Guided Walk from Gandia to Xeraco, and what a glorious day it was for walking by the sea!

After time for refreshments on our arrival in Gandia, we then made our way along the promenade, for the start of our completely flat walk by the coast.

At the end of the promenade, we traversed across board walks, which raised us up and were easy to walk on.

Until we reached the dirt track which led to Xeraco, but as maintenance work was taking place we had to re-route to the sea and walk along by the edge of the water, many of us taking the opportunity to paddle in the warm water.

As we neared Xeraco, Wendy Ranger kindly took a group photo, and had her usual basket of sweeties to hand around to us all. Many thanks Wendy!

When the watchtower came in sight, we crossed over the sandy beach and walked down the side of the Vaca River stopping to take photos on the bridge.

Finally, the last stretch was along the main street of Xeraco to the Restaurante Casa Carol.  We had a plentiful 3-course menu with drinks and the staff were both friendly and efficient.

Jo managed to fit in a swim – she had brought her costume, although Playa de l’Ahuir is a famous, officially authorized, 2-kilometer nudist beach! (which had led to a few amusing comments as we passed by!). We returned to Jávea having enjoyed a wonderful walk by the sea, a relaxing lunch, and all with great company. Thank you to all the members who joined me!

Report by the group leader, Angela Chantry, with special thanks to our photographers: Peter Bayliss, Debby Hynx, Wendy Ranger, and Angela.
