Open Letter from the British Ambassador in Madrid – UK State Pensions

We are posting a copy of an open letter written by Hugh Elliott, the British Ambassador in Madrid.

This is about a process being followed by the Department for Work and Pensions to check that pensioners receiving the Old Age Pension in Spain are still eligible. It involves pensioners supplying a “life certificate” to certify that they are still alive and entitled to receive the Old Age Pension.

Initially this process is being applied to people over the age of 80.

If you are over 80 and have not yet received a letter requesting a life certificate, you can request another letter at the following website: https://www.gov.uk/international-pension-centre.

It is really important that you follow the process quickly as a failure to do so might result in your Old Age pension not being paid.

If you are under the age of 80 there is no action required but a letter will be sent towards the end of this year requesting a “life certificate”. The British Embassy recommends that you check your registered address by going to the website: https://www.gov.uk/international-pension-centre.
