Is the Eurozone headed towards a cashless society?

The next Discussion Group meeting will be held as usual on 25th April, at the Javea Social Centre.

The subject is important to everyone as everybody uses digital or paper money. If the Eurozone is headed towards a cashless society, how soon will it happen?

The discussion will focus on a few subtopics :

– What have been the results in Sweden as they have moved to eliminate cash transactions across the retail space?

– How can we overcome citizens’ reluctance to give up cash?

– What are the downsides of cashless transactions, including financial transactions during systems failures, rectifying errors, and third-party surveillance of spending patterns?

– What are the upsides of no longer having to use or keep cash, including reduction of fraud, and more efficient tax collection?

It might be time to decide what to do with that rainy-day stash hidden under the mattress, because in a cashless EU, it may soon be just dead weight.
