The next meeting is at the Javea Player’s studio on Tuesday, the 20th of October 2:45 pm for a 3pm start. There is a €2 per head collection to pay for the hire of the studio. All U3A members are welcome. You do not have to notify anyone that you are coming just turn up.
We are fortunate indeed to have Gaile Griffin speak to us for this next Family History meeting. Gaile is a book publisher, artist, photographer, website creator, an expert on antiques, a stamp collector and she has been researching her family history for more than 30 odd years. Gaile is an extremely interesting and entertaining speaker. Gaile is 2nd generation in Javea, parents Mai and Michael Griffin whom some of you might have known.
I asked her to write a paragraph for the talk:
“The unexpected people I’ve met on my journey into the past.
From the wine merchant in an old family bible to characters who witnessed history, everyone’s tree has interesting stories to tell and secrets to unearth – some bizarre, some unpleasant, some sad, happy, funny or just plain odd – the more side families we explore, the more bizarre brushes with the past we make. I hope that you will enjoy meeting some of my possible, extremely improbable and even a few of the definite family members whom I’ve uncovered over the last 35 years messing about with genealogy – includes suspected witchcraft, torture and treason, amongst other things !”
