Wine Appreciation – Thursday WAGS 14th May 2026

Report by Karen and Mark Brown, Photos by Steve Young

Well , what a good turnout once again and it was great to see several staunch members return too 😊

The theme of the month was Italy 🇮🇹 and Steve Young gave us all an excellent presentation of 4 quality wines.

We started with an elegant crisp white wine Gavi Ricossa 2024 from Piedmont, Northern Italy, often compared to a Chablis.

We then enjoyed 3 red wines…..

The 1st red was a fruity and elegant Chianti Classico Vallenuova Tolaini from Tuscany.

The 2nd red was a favourite of many – Tagaro Pinataro Primitivo from Puglia which was a fruity, velvety wine which Steve aptly described as “dangerously drinkable” and he wasn’t wrong!

The 3rd wine was a special Barolo Mario Giribaldi 2020 from Piedmont, Italy’s Burgundy. Steve made it very clear that we couldn’t have a theme of Italian wines without a Barolo! It certainly had a long, serious finish of the chosen wines we enjoyed this month.

All wines were accompanied with freshly prepared dishes by Elizabeth and her team, in keeping with the Italian theme.

The restaurant was suitably decorated with Italian bunting & table embellishments and some members wore colours to match too.

To conclude the meeting, Karen gave an update on the upcoming Bodega day trip and wished everyone a fabulous Summer break.

If we don’t see you on the Bodega trip, we will see you in September.

Kindest Regards

Karen & Mark 🤗
