Rose of Saffron trip – report by Sally Rush

Angela Chantry and Tony Dearie led yet another excellent Spanish Culture & Cuisine trip, this time to the region of Castilla La Mancha.

The main purpose of the trip was to visit Consuegra where the annual Fiesta de la Rosa del Azafran was taking place. On the first day we began our trip with a visit, including tastings, at the winery of Chozas Carrascal in Utiel Requena. From there we moved on to the charming town of Cuenca with its ancient hanging-houses.

Over the next few days we visited palaces, castles, churches, cathedrals and, of course, the Saffron Festival.

Angela  and Tony spend many hours researching and planning these trips and their efforts should be appreciated by all who partake of the trips. Often they do trips to ‘reccy’ the hotels and restaurants, but that is not always possible so some of the meals and facilities prove to be better than others. On this occasion they saved the best ’til last: a lovely lunch in the small town of Alarcon … and the coach journey back to Javea was the quietest it had been all week!!!

Thank you Angela and Tony for another great trip!
