Restarting Group Activities – Covid Rules

At a meeting on 10 May the Committee considered the question of indoor groups re-starting their activities now that Covid restrictions have been relaxed further and with the prospect of even more freedom coming soon.

Firstly, we agreed that we expect every member to abide by all requirements of the regulations in any group activities. Secondly, we expect Group Leaders to familiarise themselves with the rules.

Here is a link to some information that may help

Our concern is to ensure that as an organisation we abide by the regulations to avoid the possibility of causing illness amongst our members or to other members of the public where groups meet in a venue which is not reserved for the group only.

We expect the Group Leader to ensure compliance with the following minimum safety measures:-

1. A list to be compiled of attendees with their contact details and who they sat with. This list to be kept for at least 3 weeks in case of contact tracing being required.

2. Masks to be worn at all times, except when actually eating or drinking.

3. Hands to be sanitised on entering the venue and repeated as necessary if handling cards or other equipment.

4. No mingling together on entry, members to go straight to their designated seat.

5. No more than 10 people at a table.

6. Social distancing to be maintained for table spacing.

If any member or Group Leader feels unable to comply with these measures, then the group cannot meet under the auspices of the U3A Javea and it will be deemed a private meeting.

Those who organise private meetings should be aware that any infractions of Covid regulations incur a fine for the organiser and for each participant. Fines for organisers start at 30,000€ because there will be people over 65 years of age involved.

We hope you find these highlights of the rules to be helpful, but we stress that any other rules that might be applicable for your specific activity must also be identified and complied with.

We recommend checking with the local police, who enforce the rules, if you are unsure on any point.

Issued on 12 May by individual email to all members including Group Leaders
