President’s Report

Outside my back door after the rain

What a month that was! Rain, Storm, Gales. I hope none of you suffered too badly during the Gota Fria. I had a bit of a leak in my utility room which I didn’t know about until I went to get some ice for my G&T and stepped into a puddle!!

It has been a quiet month on the U3A front. Margaret March, Piotr Azia and John Wilde are continuing to develop and fine tune the website, do have a look at it. They are also continuing to train the group leaders to communicate with their own groups, this will save Ian Rogerson, our Communications Officer, having to send those emails to everybody.

I am being trained as we speak and, hopefully, will post my own report onto the website – ooooooo!!

We have the May Ball to look forward to at the end of the month, best frocks on ladies – and don’t forget to bring some money for the tombola. We have loads of lovely prizes. The profit from the tombola goes into our charity fund, currently Help of Denia and Marina Alta. We did really well last year for Todos Juntos, let’s see if we can do better for Help, which we all need as we get older.

After that there is our Halloween dinner/dance, so get your names down for that. It will be …… Surprise! Surprise! ….. on the 31st October at the Dance Cafe, Toscamar.

There are also the usual day trips organised by the Travel Group to Valencia and Alicante. These sell out pretty quickly so you have to come to the meeting at the Parador to book. I am booking onto a longer trip to Andalucia, you’ll have to look on the website for details, but it sounds interesting and not too packed with side trips to museums etc.

Of course, Tony and Angela will be there to book you into their many trips, dinners, parties and so on. Where do they get their energy?

We have an update on the Parador closure, it isn’t! We have now been told that the Parador will stay open until at least next April and we can continue to have our meetings there. I do so wish they would make up their minds.

This means we will be holding our November Extravaganza there as usual. Speaking of which, we have a great bunch of people willing to ‘perform’ but we need a Producer/Director. Who is out there who can pull a bunch of would-be actors together and make it a show?

Now a serious request from our Treasurers. When you pay by bank transfer please, please make sure you complete the reference field. If you don’t fill this in they don’t know what you are paying for and you could miss out.

Now I will close and get back to my visitors, it must be summer!!

Stay well my dear friends,
Val xx
