History Talks. When Denia Ruled the Waves: a maritime history. Keith Smith

Today Denia is a thriving tourist destination on the Costa Blanca. Despite the growth of air traffic it retains an important link from mainland Spain to the Balearic Islands.
But there was a time when Denia was more important than that. It was one of the strongest cities in the whole of the Mediterranean and its´naval forces were feared on the coasts of France and Italy.
This talk by Keith Smith, who has given previous talks, including Al Azraq Moorish Warlord of the Marina Alta, covers the maritime history of Denia starting with its´early settlers and taking us through the impact of the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Visigoths and Moors on the town, region and Mediterranean.

And if you want to know the connection between Bridget Bardot and the sea power of Islamic Spain, then come along and find out!
