Virtual Monthly Meeting 24 February 2021

Another good turnout! 51 members joined us for a fascinating presentation by Alan Oliver about the Panama Canal – its construction after many years of deliberating by governments and a failed attempt by a French construction company.

Below you can see the route we took on a virtual tour of the canal and very pleasant it was too.

Since it was opened in 1914 it has seen a huge throughput of ships and is being widened and developed further to allow more freight to pass between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans via the Caribbean Sea.

Many thanks to Alan for a really interesting insight into one of the world’s most important engineering structures. A lovely way to spend a cloudy morning in Jávea!
