Categories

Our website is based on categories, it’s therefore essential to understand how they work in order to use them correctly.

To avoid interfering with other users on the website, please only use the categories you have been assigned.

When creating a post, you assign a category, which controls where it will appear within our website

Post Categories are also used to determine which posts are included in the Mailpoet Post Notification newsletters like the Weekly News from the website.

U3A Group Leaders will only need to add two Post Categories only to each post to ensure that the post is included in a Newsletter and displayed correctly on the website.

The first category will be the [Group category] i.e. the name of the group- This will ensure that the latest post is assigned to that group and appears in the Group page on the website. In the cases of Spanish Culture & Cuisine andTravel the post will also appear on the front page of the website.

The second category will be News for all groups including U3A news except for Spanish Culture & Cuisine andTravel. This category will result in the post being included in the weekly U3A newsletter and an extract of the post being displayed in the News section on the front page of the website.

For Spanish Culture & Cuisine andTravel the 2nd category will be Newsletter-Weeklywhich will add the post to the weekly newsletter. (Without adding the post to the News section)

If however the information needs to be sent out before the next weekly newsletter, the webmaster will add the category Newsletter-Now. For urgent messages that do not need to be displayed on the website, the News or Newsletter-Weekly category should be removed/omitted,

The webmaster can use the Highlights category to add a post to the Spotlight section of the front page. Using Newsletter-Now or Newsletter-Weekly as the second categorywill add the post to Mailpoet.

In summary

  • SC&C and Travel use categories [SC&C or Travel] and Newsletter-Weekly
  • U3A Admin and other groups use [ group category ] and News

with exceptions as above.

Events categories are used to assign individual events to groups and activities (e.g. History, Travel, etc.) and display them on their pages
