SUMMARY:Getaway Guided Walk: Gandia to Xeraco – the beach trail
DESCRIPTION:\nFriday 16th October 2026\n\n\n\nGandia Beach to Xeraco Beach takes you past quiet, natural dunes and open shorelines away from big buildings, often utilizing wooden pathways for an easy, scenic stroll by the Mediterranean.  While the walk is simple, it passes through a protected ecological zone with several unique features:\n\n\n\nThe Dunes of Playa de l’Auir – This is one of the very few undisturbed sand dune ecosystems left on the Valencian coast. You will walk past rolling sand hills held together by specialized Mediterranean plants like sea daffodils and beach grass, which protect the inland territory from coastal erosion.\n\n\n\nBird Watching at the Riu Vaca Mouth – Where the Riu Vaca (Cow River) meets the Mediterranean Sea, a small wetland estuary forms. This quiet, reed-filled area is a great spot to pause and look for marsh birds, herons, and waterfowl.\n\n\n\nThe Eco-Wooden Boardwalk – To protect the fragile dune system, a long, winding wooden footbridge stretches across the landscape. Walking on it gives you an elevated, panoramic view of both the open sea to your right and the mountain backdrops of Safor to your left.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMAP 1: 5.63 km (from Gandia/Playa de L’Auir to Xeraco)\n\n\n\nMaximum elevation: 1 metre\n\n\n\nDifficulty: easy\n\n\n\nMAP 2: CONTINUATION\n\n\n\nDistance: approx. 5 km\n\n\n\nDifficulty: easy\n\n\n\nWhen we reach the Observation Tower at the Mouth of the Xeraco River (number 4 on the map), we will continue along part of the Riu Vaca Route, past the Watchtower of Xeraco (no. 3 on the map) until we reach the endpoint for our walk, where we will have lunch.\n\n\n\nTotal time walking = 2.5 hrs\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPROGRAMME\n\n\n\n09.00 hrs: Departure from Golden Star Apartments, Calle Bruselas (park in layby near the boules area), Javea Arenal.\n\n\n\n09.15 hrs: Departure from Interiors (opposite side of the road), Avda Ausias March, Javea port.\n\n\n\n09.35 hrs: Pick up at Mas y Mas on the N332 if required.\n\n\n\nDrive to Gandia.\n\n\n\n10.45 hrs: Drop off at the Bar Restaurante Barracuda, Gandia. Time for refreshments.\n\n\n\n11.30 hrs: Commence the route. \n\n\n\n14.00 hrs: Menu del dia lunch (restaurante tbc).\n\n\n\n16.00 hrs: Reboard our minibus for the return journey to Javea.\n\n\n\n17.15 hrs: Approximate time or arrival back in Javea.\n\n\n\nCOST: tbc\n\n\n\nWhat is included\n\n\n\nTransport by minibus (25 passengers max.).\n\n\n\nMenu del dia lunch.\n\n\n\nGratuities.\n\n\n\nIt is your responsibility to look at the characteristics of the route and ensure that you are capable of doing the walk.
