DESCRIPTION:\nTexas – the Lone Star State by Peter Atkinson \n\n\n\nTexas has a rich history;  the flags of six nations have flown over it: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the USA and the Confederate States of America.\n\n\n\nIts prosperity was founded on the three Cs- cattle, cotton and crude.  While cowboys and oilmen are part of the story, it also includes conquistadors and explorers, indigenous peoples and immigrant settlers, landowners and slaves, revolutionaries and war heroes, gangsters and assassins, astronauts and very colourful politicians!\n\n\n\nHe will also include pictures of his other two great interests….architecture and paintings….mainly in Austin, the capital.  \n\n\n\nAs this will be Peter’s final talk, we expect a big turnout.
